We have known Ray for more than a decade as a community organizer. For the last several years he and his partner, Jeff, have taken some time off to raise their son who attends school in the district. There he found new ways to volunteer and engage.
Now Ray is taking his service into the political arena to represent the residents of Alum Rock School District. This district has been fodder for the press as one salacious incident after another has occured for over the last 20 years. Currently there are investigations by the SEC, Assembly Joint Audit Committee, District Attorney Rosen and the Civil Grand Jury.
At a time when our community is under direct attack from the administrative, legislative and judicial branches, it is vital that we work to ensure our voices are at the tables that govern. Ray will be a reformer and will represent parents who have been continually ignored by the existing board. He has served for five years as the chair of the Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee and has had a front row perspective that sets him apart from the other candidates. He has been called the "Ray of Hope for Alum Rock" by County Supervisor Ken Yeager and is supported by Alum Rock teachers, BAYMEC and the South Bay Labor Council, AFL-CIO. He has received endorsemnets from Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte, Mayor Sam Liccardo and the San Jose Mercury News.
